In 2020, over 1 million people in France were affected by bed bugs. In recent years, we’ve seen a real upsurge in the number of bedbugs, particularly due to the increase in travel and accommodation rentals.
By renting out a room or an entire apartment on Air BnB or another platform, your home becomes a place with a high turnover of people. And all places with a high turnover of people are likely to be impacted one day or another by the bed bugs plague. Not only does an infestation make eradicating them a real ordeal, but it can also damage the reputation of your home.
To guarantee a bed-bug-free room or apartment, we recommend that, between rentals, you :
- Carry out a thorough check of the accommodation for the presence of bed bugs (blood stains on sheets, check seams, baseboards, slats, and all dark nooks and crannies around sleeping areas…).
- Wash all sheets at over 60 degrees Celsius.
- Freeze anything that can’t be washed at high temperature, but this is very time-consuming and difficult to do between rentals!
- Use SERENI-D SOS Bedbugs spray as a preventive measure on bedding to destroy any eggs and larvae that are difficult to see with the naked eye.
As it’s very difficult to spot a single bedbug, which can itself remain wandering without feeding for up to 18 months in the adult stage, we also recommend that you :
- Equip your bedding with white sheets and pillowcases to make it easier to spot traces of bed bugs (blood and droppings).
- Equip your living quarters with beds without drawers, and rather with metal box springs with only 4 legs. Bed bugs will tend to slide around and won’t be able to climb onto the bed.
- Equip your mattresses with bedbug protectors to prevent bedbugs from lodging in the mattress seams.
- Place a large sheet over the unlined fitted sheet. This will act as an additional barrier to any bed bugs that may be present, preventing them from biting hosts, feeding and continuing their breeding cycle.
- This is not very popular with guests, as it is frightening, but a very effective solution is to place bed bug traps at the foot of each bed.
